Did we miss something on diversity?
Research shows a connection between kids' healthy self-esteem and positive portrayals in media. That's why we've added a new "Diverse Representations" section to our reviews that will be rolling out on an ongoing basis. You can help us help kids by suggesting a diversity update.

A Lot or a Little?
The parents' guide to what's in this app.
What Parents Need to Know
Parents need to know that JibJab Jr. Books offers a library of animated picture books that you can personalize. By adding your child's name and uploading his or her photo, your kid becomes the star of the story. There is only one free book with the app ("The Biggest Pizza Ever"). Any additional books must be paid for -- either $7.99 apiece, or with a $3.99 monthly subscription fee. The subscription fee is auto-renewed every month until you send an email to cancel. To make sure your children don't accidentally purchase extra books or subscriptions, it's wise to turn off in-app purchases from your iPad's Setting menu.

Is It Any Good?
The personalization offered by JIBJAB JR. BOOKS is a great concept. And visually, it works incredibly well. Seeing your child's face on the main character can make for loads of laughs, especially since the animation works so smoothly. Some narration (or any kind of sound effects) would be a big boon to the app, as right now, the story is so quiet that it feels like something is missing. And the youngest users will need help with the reading. Many people will probably balk at the subscription price, but the one free book alone offers a really fun experience.
