Did we miss something on diversity?
Research shows a connection between kids' healthy self-esteem and positive portrayals in media. That's why we've added a new "Diverse Representations" section to our reviews that will be rolling out on an ongoing basis. You can help us help kids by suggesting a diversity update.

A Lot or a Little?
The parents' guide to what's in this app.
What Parents Need to Know
Parents need to know that Mathinary is a no-frills math reference good for formulas and formula calculations. If you've entered the realm of formula-driven mathematics (like geometry or trigonometry), finance (econ class), or engineering (shop class carpentry or drafting), this app will help you get through. If you can't remember the formula for the area or arc length of a circular sector, this app will provide it. Plus, you can enter the radius and angle data, tap Calculate, and it will show you some of the process as well as the answer.

What’s It About?
Users choose among seven menu items, most with submenus. Geometry and algebra are best represented with 23 (plane and solid) and 10 pages respectively. If you choose rhombus, the About section has a labeled diagram, a definition, and some extra details. The formulas tab repeats the diagram and lists three formulas for area and one for perimeter. Enter data in the calculator tab input boxes, for instance, for side lengths, and hit Calculate.
Is It Any Good?
While Mathinary is a good attempt at providing easy-access math reference and formula calculation, it still needs development. While geometry is covered well, some topics are missing the basics. Conversions, for example, don't include temperature, weight, or speed. While Fractions includes types, expanding, reducing, and operations, the opening description does not state that a fraction represents a part of a whole, nor are all the sentences complete. The formula calculators in this app are where the bang is, particularly for geometry but also finance. So if that's what you need, this one is for you.
Talk to Your Kids About ...
Keep in close contact with your child's math teacher if he or she is having trouble.
This app is not very engaging, so kids may need a reminder that it's available and can be a useful tool.
