What’s It About?
STOP MOTION STUDIO is a photo and video tool that makes creating animations simple and easy. Kids can select photos from their libraries or record new images from within the app. A basic set of tools such as overlay, grid, frame-by-frame preview, frame positioning, and fade are included in the free version. To utilize the green screen, remote camera, and other movie effects, you'll need to make an in-app purchase. Getting started is easy, and there are helpful tips throughout. A welcome animation provides some inspiration for kids, and they can dig a little deeper into a library of featured videos for more great ideas. If you choose, kids can share animated creations on a variety of platforms.
Is It Any Good?
As kids explore the tools, they can experiment with various editing techniques. Kids can tap easily visible buttons to add audio, cut frames, and new images; change the speed; and more. By using these creation tools, kids become deeply engaged with the content. The ability to animate images makes the experience fun and provides insight into the animation process. Kids can record what's around them or construct an entirely new environment to capture through stop-motion animation.
Although the overall experience is a lighter version of more serious animation software, the simplicity may provide an ideal introduction for beginners. For those wanting to dig deeper, they’ll be able to take their understanding of frame-by-frame capture to go on to more advanced tools.
