A lot or a little?
The parents' guide to what's in this app.
What parents need to know
Parents need to know that TowerMadness HD is a tower defense game where players strategically place various gun turrets to stop waves of invading aliens from reaching their herd of sheep. While warfare is a central theme, there's no graphic violence depicted. Defeated aliens simply disappear, and if an alien reaches a sheep, the sheep simply gets "abducted" by disappearing in a beam of light. A version is available for iPhone for $2.99 without HD graphics or the multiplayer mode.
Is it any good?
TOWERMADNESS HD is a tower defense game with a few welcome twists. Tower defense games are all about stopping waves of incoming enemies by strategically placing weapons to disrupt the flow. In this app, the high-definition graphics let you zoom in to see an impressive amount of detail, and a fun multiplayer mode enables two people to play in split screen using the same iPad. Difficulty is challenging but manageable, and there are an impressive variety of maps and weapons. The only complaint is that the number of alien waves per level -- frequently well over 100 -- can start to feel tedious. However, the good qualities of TowerMadness HD far outweigh the bad.
