What's the Story?
When A BURNING IN THE BONES begins, Ren and Theo are up against unexpected challenges in their quest to overhaul the social structure of Kathor. But when a strange plague overtakes the city, they find themselves at the heart of a deep conspiracy. Only by working with old enemies and new allies can they hope to find a cure for the strange curse that threatens to tear their community, and the entire world of magic, apart.
Is It Any Good?
Action-packed and thrilling, this is a deeply satisfying conclusion to the Waxway trilogy. A Burning In The Bones both continues the story arc introduced in the first two books, while adding a compelling plot line and new characters. Together, they bring the entire series to an exciting and emotionally compelling close. The themes of privilege, power and revenge are at the forefront, with morally gray characters searching deep within their hearts hoping to make peace with their demons. The world created by author Scott Reintgen is fascinating and deftly crafted, adding depth and color to the book. This fantasy series is both enjoyable and thought provoking.
Talk to Your Kids About ...
Families can talk about Ren's need for revenge throughout the series, and her realizations at the end of A Burning In The Bones. How does she feel once this need is satisfied?
All three main characters grow and change by the end of the book. How does the author show each person's differing courage in the face of danger?
What do you think of the reasons the various groups eventually work together? Do you think they could've compromised under less dire circumstances?
