Where to Read
What's the Story?
A child is asked if they're big -- but soon realizes that "big" is a relative term. Compared to the moon or a sun or a galaxy, a person is small. But to an insect on the ground, a person is huge. Size is relative and perspective is everything!
Is It Any Good?
This deceptively simple, fun picture book is an enjoyable read-aloud and a good conversation starter. Are You Big? is a delightful way to get young kids to think about relative size, perspective, and to consider how other people feel when they're the small one in any situation. While a bit of a departure theme-wise for Mo Willems, his signature twist-ending is here and will bring the expected giggles and comforting reassurance fans are used to.
Talk to Your Kids About ...
Families can talk about what makes them feel different sizes, like the kid in Are You Big? wonders. What are some situations where you felt big? When do you feel small?
How do you feel when you feel small? Does it affect your mood? What about when you're big?
This book has a twist at the end. How did wha tthe ant says make you feel? What other books have you read that have a funny, clever, or interesting ending?
