ok so

basically this book shouldn’t be for any age let me explain. The mockery in the beginning of the book is cruel, and can lead to eating problems with some readers. since there is a moment in the book when Linda is told she weighs too much for a 5th grader , they should of left out numbers. I found horrible the Bully’s barely got punished and the story is told from the Bully’s side. Thus has to much profanity to be 8 and up. 9-11 it can cause body image issues.

Really great!

I am 12 years old and I first read this book when I was 11. Parents need to know that the kids use words that fifth graders use all the time - b*tch, idiot, fat. The main character, Jill, totally goes along with the bullying, but when the victim and the main bully turn on her, she learns a lesson.

I LOVE this book! It is full of great messages and meaningful topics that kids should be exposed to. It does have a lot of swearing and violence so I recommended it to older ages.

Good, but very harsh.

I’ve seen Lots of angry parents in the reviews, about how there’s a racial slur, about how it apparently spreads “negativity ” and the language used etcetera etcetera.. blah blah blah!! but the thing many of these parents are missing is the part where the bullies learn their lesson. this books wording is very explicit and harsh, but it’s realistic. as a minor, I’ve heard kids at school use this type of language. this book provided REAL and a realistic example of bullying. However to parents: there is a scene where they strip the bullies girl as a punishment and use words such as “b!tch” and etc. good thing is the book provided the bullies girl justice. regardless this book isn’t a favorite of mine, but these reviews are slightly misleading

Good book

I first read this book when I was 10 and I was crying during the book because of how badly this girl was bullied. I have recently reread it now I’m 11 and I didn’t cry. I think any kid over 11 can read this book as long as they know bullying is wrong.

Ignore Anything Negative I Say Here (But parents, read this review thoroughly)

My mom read Judy Blume as a kid and she was one of her favorite authors so now my mom has me hooked on Judy Blume! As a little kid I was laughing out loud repeatedly at the Fudge books and now I’ve been rereading Blubber and Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret over and over again. I think Blubber is one of Judy Blume’s better books, actually. Sure, the bullying gets pretty bad including a couple scenes where the bullies want a girl to pull down her pants and kiss their feet, as well as some not-so-good insults, and respect to your neighbors is not something the book shows a lot of, what it does show though is DISrespect for neighbors, but once when the girls are caught playing a mean prank on a neighbor they don’t like they are punished. Parents should be aware of this stuff before they let their kids read this. But the good part is that eventually the girl who is getting bullied does what she can to put a stop to it, and there is lots of educational value that just comes as interesting facts sprinkled around randomly on pages. I think a kid younger than 11+ would probably understand this book but 11+ is the age that would probably need and be interested in a book like this and that the book is appropriate for. Fans of Judy Blume won’t be disappointed from reading this. (I’m going to review Just As Long As We’re Together, one of my absolute favorites, after I finish this review. ) A really good book that is very realistic.

Moving book with so many great messages for girls and boys alike

I know people that have been bullied, and this book illustrates how bad it is. If there's a bully, buy them this book and have them read it. Maybe they will realize the cost of their teasing.
