Exceptional

A wonderful story of Jacqueline Woodsons childhood. Just one thing: A character dies of smoking, but that is not shown, only talked about.

Outstanding book of poems highlights a young girl's life

This book is, without a doubt, one of the best books I've read in a long time. Jacqueline Woodson is an outstanding author who knows how to write a perfect book. Brown Girl Dreaming definitely deserves all the awards it has received. All else I can say is, this is a must read for all tweens.

Upsetting and Moving but Worth Reading

Brown Girl Dreaming is a book that I thought was excellent for 11-13 year-olds. It is written in free verse, but it is still awesome. It is great if you want to get into nonfiction because it is both historical and interesting. It's also poetic. The poems are well-written and not very long.
