What's the Story?

In GABBY TORRES GETS A BILLION FOLLOWERS, fourth grader Gabby is excited to have been invited to join the Sea Musketeers, a club for kids who love oceans that was founded by idol Stella Diaz. She's one of the youngest members of the group and sometimes feels that the other kids don't take her seriously. When she offers to create a social media page for the club to help the group gain more exposure, she finds that she might have bitten off more than she can chew. How will Gabby manage something that's more daunting than she has anticipated?

Catchy like a jingle, this effort by bestselling author-illustrator Angela Dominguez explores issues of integrity, internet safety, cultural heritage, and activism. Gabby Torres Gets a Billion Followers is narrated by a feisty, incredibly likable main character who learns lessons despite herself. It's a colorful hybrid graphic novel with enough educational content to merit a second read. The first in a series, this book is good for both chapter-book graduates and early middle-grade readers. Parents will appreciate the patient, involved role modeling that Gabby's supportive family provides.
