Good story line

The book is a good book, but it isn't always action packed and if you like a story where you know the bad guy all along this is not a good book for you. Also if you are easily startled the end might be a bit too much for a younger reader.

Great fantasy/mystery/ghost story is set in an incredibly imaginative world and has brilliant, memorable characters

SPOILER WARNING! Wow. This is an extremely original, weird, brilliant book, full of unique, lovable characters. The story takes place in the human world, but in a fictional town called Nagspeake that really feels like it belongs in a fairytale. Milo and his family own an inn called Greenglass House that is one of the most original places I've ever read about. The story is about how, around Christmas, which is usually a quiet time at Greenglass House, guests start mysteriously showing up. They are all connected to Greenglass House somehow, and Milo wants to find out why so many guests are there at the same time. It's sort of a ghost story, sort of a fantasy novel, and sort of a completely unique genre. The descriptions and writing are easy to understand and read, but are absolutely brilliant. The story was so entertaining that I never wanted the book to end (thankfully there's a sequel!) I definitely recommend reading this book. Kate Milford is a wonderful author, and one who is very good at writing memorable, bizarre characters that really catch your attention. Though this book is appropriate for tweens ages ten and up, here are a few things that parents might want to be aware of: VIOLENCE AND SCARINESS (3/10)- A character threatens other characters with a gun. No one is injured. Suspenseful scene near the end of the book where two child characters are in danger. A main character is a ghost. She tells the story of how she died (she fell off of a balcony). It's mentioned that a character fell off of a cliff and died. LANGUAGE (1/10)- Characters say "hell" and "crap." SEX (0.5)- Almost nothing. Two adult characters are in love with the same person. DRINKING, DRUGS, AND SMOKING (2/10)- Adult characters smoke and drink alcohol a few times. WHAT AGE CAN A KID READ IT? I said ten and up because I think that's the age that kids will enjoy the story the most, and because younger kids might find the story too creepy, suspenseful, or long. In conclusion, Greenglass House is a fantastic, unique story that every tween should read at least once.

One of my favorite books!

I love mysteries and this one was perfect for me. I never liked ghost stories yet this one I loved. It’s interesting yet not scary or disturbing, and whenever I read it it makes me want to sit in front of a fireplace in a snowy town. Worth any amount of money.

It was great, till there was Ghosts.....

I really liked the book, till I, ***SPOILER****** found out that one of the main Characters was a ghost. I just don't like that kind of stuff. Otherwise Great book. (I didn't finish it.)

Great book!

I definitely recommend this book an amazing but complicated plot I was hanging on to every word! The plot can be hard to follow and you really need to pay attention but it is definitely worth it in the end. A little violence (guns) and swearing. But still such a great book probably my favorite book ever, and I have read a LOT of books !

Intrinsically awe-worthy

This book possesses a unique writing style, and is well crafted, piecing together an elegant plot that is comprehensible to children, as well as enjoyable for any age. It has beautiful messages about identity, and features a protagonist who is relatable, and struggles with his identity as an adopted child. The characters are well developed and usually fairly well-rounded. Overall, the book is an lovely read, and definitely worth your time.
