What's the Story?
HIS MORTAL DEMISE continues the story of Nhika and Kochin, two older teens with magical healing powers in a world on the brink of war. When Nhika wakes up in a strange house with no memory of how she got there, or what happened after she tried to save Kochin, she determines to find the answers to Kochin's fate. Skipping back in time we piece together what happened to Kochin, and what he had to do, to bring Nhika back from the dead. But at every turn it looks like they simply can't both be alive at the same time, let alone be free to live and love in peace.
Is It Any Good?
This is a gripping page-turner of a romantasy with lots of tension and suspense as the main characters look for answers. His Mortal Demise cleverly uses two main narrators at different points to keep the pages turning as readers try to find answers along with Nhika and Kochin. Many favorite characters are back in the richly detailed world with hints of steampunk. Nhika is easy to relate to and root for, and Kochin is easy to sympathize with even as he makes another wrong choice. The exciting ending satisfies and provides readers with a lot to think about in terms of what we really want out of life.
Talk to Your Kids About ...
Families can talk about how compassion and empathy are important to Nhika as a heartsooth. What does Kochin learn about these that help him become a better, more positive heartsooth himself?
What gives Nhika and Kochin the courage to keep going, no matter how impossible their task might seem?
What about the violence in this story? Is it too much? Is reading about it different from seeing it in other media like games, videos, movies, etc.?
