What's the Story?
Our world is full of things to look at, but we're also surrounded by INVISIBLE THINGS: sounds, smells, tastes, textures, emotions, feelings, and more. In this picture book, co-authors/illustrators Andy J. Pizza and Sophie Miller take a look at some of these things that can't be seen and why they matter in our lives. They also imagine what they might look like. It's an invitation to pay attention to the moment you're in and maybe find a way to express it.
Is It Any Good?
Some will evoke delight, some bewilderment, but these colorful imaginings of unseen forces are a launchpad for interesting conversations about feelings and sensations and how to deal with them. Invisible Things finds Pizza and Miller turning their eyes to things that can't be looked at -- smells, sounds, tastes, moods, vibes, character strengths -- and imagining what they might look like. You may see "gravity" or "déjà vu" a bit differently from the authors, but the quirky illustrations offer plenty of inspiration for noticing, recognizing, and coping with things that you can't see but are a big part of your world.
Talk to Your Kids About ...
Families can talk about the Invisible Things in their lives -- maybe the sounds you hear on your walk, the wind through the trees, or excitement about going somewhere fun. After reading the book, what do you want to pay more attention to that you haven't noticed or thought about?
Do you think it's fun to imagine what something invisible might look like? How might you understand it better if you could draw a picture of it?
What's your favorite color? How does it make you feel? How do you make it part of your life?
