What's the Story?

In MOUSETRONAUT SAVES THE WORLD, an asteroid is headed for Earth and the only space travelers who can get there in time to shift its path and avoid a collision is a trio of mice. One of them, Meteor, has been on missions in space before but Newton and Nova are new Moustronauts, and they all dedicate themselves to learning and training and being ready. But when something goes wrong, they rely on teamwork, science, brains, and heart to succeed in their mission and make it home safely.

This inspiring picture book is full of science, history, and lessons about teamwork and bravery that are much bigger than the tiny mice who hop onto the spaceship. Mousetronaut Saves the World weaves a lovely story together with page after page of information about getting to—and getting home from— space. Big, complex problems like changing the trajectory of an asteroid are explained in age-appropriate ways that help young readers understand the science and knowledge behind the work. The choices the moustronauts face open possibilities for talking about what each of us would do in their situation. Several pages of history and facts at the end of the book help satisfy curiosity and will likely prompt more questions and research.
