What's the Story?
MY DADDY IS A COWBOY begins on a crisp morning, before the sun has risen. A father and daughter venture to a ranch, set in an urban community, to take their horses for a ride. Horses Power and Clover take the father and daughter on a peaceful, special ride through their city, for "just us time." It's as if the world has quieted around them, as they take the time to engage with each other in questions and laughter, observing their neighborhood through a different point of view. The father shares his stories of being an urban cowboy, his respect of horses, and love of his family and culture with his daughter. The pair end their unforgettable day surrounded by family. The daughter dubs herself a cowboy, just like her dad.

Saddle up for a luminous story grounded in joy, love, and community. My Daddy Is a Cowboy challenges stereotypes about who has and should have access to riding horses, and where the activity should take place. The book is a lovely read for the entire family and reminds us to take time out of our schedules to connect with the people we love most. My Daddy Is a Cowboy showcases Black joy on each of its bold and beautifully designed pages. The illustrations, featuring details like a coffee cup with a Panamanian flag, a portrait of a woman in traditional clothing, a local panaderia, and more, celebrate the characters' culture and community.
