Engaging and Meaningful!
This book gets my kids so involved in the story, and they are incredibly reflective of Sahara's character development. It's written with a great wit, and a heartfelt story line. Plus, it's set in Chicago which my kids adore! Yes, there are a few swears. No, I don't think that takes away from the quality of this book, especially considering the setting and what the characters are dealing with. The language includes damn, hell, jackass, and bitch, only one to two instances of each. For my fourth graders, I opted not to say bitch, but read the others. We had a conversation about how just because these words are used in the book, doesn't mean we are allowed to use them in our real life. We emphasize that these are the character's words and they are right for them in the moment that they are in. This book is well worth reading, especially as a read aloud!

Not a book for a child!
This book has vulgar language in it and should not be read by kids. My daughters teacher knew about the language and did nothing. Thought it was a good "character building" book! Bull! Cursing is not allowed.

A title so good that the teachers love it too!
I haven't even read this yet, but it's my fifth-grader's teacher's favorite... and if my daughter feels as strongly about it as she says she does, it's a great book!

Best children's book!
This is one of the best children's books I have read in my life. It is so cleverly written and I think every parent, teacher and child should read it. It made me laugh, and think at the same time. I am an aide in Special Education and it forced me to think from the child's point of view and get into how the children who are in that position feel. I absolutely recommend this book to EVERYONE!

Touching and Inspirational.
In a world where so many students are labeled, this little girl is "special", as in special ed. Though noone believes she can do it, she wants to write a book, it is her deep desire to show everyone that she is special, just not in the way they see her. This is an inspirational read that is told as if it were a true-life-story. By the end you'll figure out how special Sahara is, and that she did write her book... and you are reading it. The storyline is fantastic, inspirational, and breaks the stereotype of "special ed".
