Lost us a little

This is a good story with decent characters but many of the word choices make it hard to follow. It's also hard to read aloud. Elaborate descriptions of Victorian outfits and references to customs of time assume a knowledge base of older readers. My 7 yr old is lost a bit of the time, even my 10 yr old avid reader. We have struggled to get through it a bit. The characters are quite charming though and it is funny.

Lost Interest

My son started off loving this book and then towards the middle lost interest. There were parts that were very funny. However, the book seems to slow down and may be geared more for girls than boys.
