Amazing Book With a Very Creative Story!! As for the Ending...

This was a great book about someone from Camp Green Lake (read/watch Holes to find out about Camp Green Lake cause you shouldn't read this book if you are't familiar with Holes). The story is captivating and very creative. I couldn't put it down! The main character, Armpit (also from Holes) gets a chance to meet pop star Kaira DeLeon. However, there is a lot of violence and the last few chapters are EXTREMELY violent. That is really the main thing you should know about this book. Drugs are mentioned a few times throughout the book, too, and there is some kissing and stuff but nothing too inappropriate for anyone 11+.

OH MY STARS

This book is honestly better than the first one and it’s about armpit falling in love with a pop star. There is some violence at the end of the book, but it’s SOOOOOO GOOD.

Holes Sequel

Young people who liked Holes won't be ready for Small Steps. Small Steps features sex, drama, language, and a murder attempt, as well as shady dealings, money problems, and a backstabbing best friend.

Deeply Moving

Deeply moving but not over done. By the way - you don’t need to read holes to read this.

Ehh...

Where do I begin? "Small Steps" for me was, as you can see by my 2 stars, disappointing. "Holes" was great, but "Small Steps" isn't exactly a book you'll be recommending to your friends. Although it has positive messages and role models, the plot line is kind of weak. It's about Armpit, a supporting character from "Holes". He has left Camp Green Lake, and decides to become a good person. Armpit sets 5 goals for himself - Graduate high school, get a job, save his money, avoid situations that might turn violent, and lose the name Armpit (long story..). X-Ray, another character from "Holes," finds his friend Armpit and tells him he can make more money by ticket scalping. Eventually, Armpit gives in and joins X-Ray. Things happen, Armpit wants to buy the last tickets from X-Ray and ends up receiving counterfeit tickets. More things happen, Armpit fights a security guard, the pop star Kaira DeLeon stops it and invites Armpit and his friend Ginny (a little girl with Cerebral Palsy) backstage. Armpit and Kaira fall in love, and... yeah. My whole school read it (you were required to), and the majority of us hated it. I have to write an essay stating whether or not I consider "Small Steps" to be good literature; I said no. If you love Young Adult novels that are full of action/adventure, suspense, etc., then I suggest you skip this book and looking up the following books: "The Hunger Games" by Suzanne Collins, "Maximum Ride" by James Patterson, "I am Number Four" by Pitticus Lore, and "Gone" by Michael Grant.
