What's the Story?
In THE BOOKS OF CLASH VOLUME 1: LEGENDARY LEGENDS OF LEGENDARIOUS ACHIEVERY, a small hog rider named Terry wants to be a hero, just like his bigger and stronger brother, Captain Rokkus. But the rest of the hog riders have their doubts about Terry, and they let him know it. After a battle doesn't go their way, Terry leaves the hog riders in disgrace, hoping to find himself. Soon he meets interesting friends, enemies, and challenges that help him start to believe in himself.
Is It Any Good?
Fans of the mobile game this book is based on will most appreciate this satisfying graphic novel. Yes, the story and message of The Books of Clash Volume 1: Legendary Legends of Legendarious Achievery are decent enough, and the action easily flows from page to page. But not much context or background is established, so readers who aren't familiar with the game may be a little confused about what's going on and why groups are fighting each other in the first place. Little nods to the game -- like potions, elixirs, bombs, spells, and towers -- may also go over the heads of non-game fans. But aside from the unexplained reasoning for why the world is set up in the way it is, any reader can have a fun time rooting for Terry and his new friends. Also, the positive messages at the heart of the story give this adventure some soul, as well as a decent foundation from which to work for the future books in the series.
