Great book! Has more stuff in it than what CSM mentions

I just finished this book yesterday, and I thought it was very good. Holly Black is definitely a very talented writer. However, Common Sense Media did not pick up on some of the additional sexual content and language. There is no actual sex in the book, but two characters share a bed (no description of anything though. Nothing was implied, either.) There are a couple of passionate kisses, and in one scene, there is a character who is being kissed by two females: one on his foot and one on his neck. There is also one character who considers herself bisexual. For swearing, CSM only mentions the h-word and d-word. Upon reading the book, there is actually a bit more. There's p--s (and its alternate suffix endings), b---h, b-----d, s---, bulls---, and a--. Swearing isn't too frequent, but it's still there. In addition to that, there is a lot of talk of drinking, but CSM mentions most of what is there. The only thing I would add is that there is one character who seems to frequently appear as drunk. If you like fantasy, faeries, or a really good novel, this book is definitely for you.

Good storyline, a bit gruesome and often violent

Overall, this was an enjoyable read. The story is unique and moves along at a nice pace. No sitting still in this story, they get you right from the start in chapter one and you want to continue. The main character is a good model for perserverence, even though she is flawed in some of her thinking. Things to be aware of: Sensuality, there is a kiss near the end and the the character has an internal narrative going on while the kiss is happening. There are suggestions of other sexual conduct going on, but nothing overly graphic nor explicit. One side character is in a homosexual relationship with a mortal. Violence: this book is violent. It has scenes of graphic bloody war like battles and attacks on characters who are related and are heartless in their cruelty. There are several instances of non humans humiliating humans and overall cruel behavior to humans. One of the characters is known for dipping his war hood in the blood of his conquests. Language- A few curse words, nothing too horrible. I would not recommend this book for any teen who is squeamish with blood and violence.
