What's the Story?
THE FAITH OF ELIJAH CUMMINGS: THE NORTH START OF EQUAL JUSTICE tells the story of Representative Elijah Cummings, who overcame great obstacles to become an important American leader. Elijah grew up in a low-income family, who rented a home in a segregated community in Baltimore, in the 1960s. He struggled in school, and his teachers didn't believe in his dream of becoming a lawyer. Growing up, Elijah was constantly reminded to have hope and faith in a better tomorrow, as he experienced racism and inequality. Inspired by his parents and other community leaders, he worked hard for his dream of going to college. Elijah believed, "education is the gateway for success in accomplishing anything in life," and he was right. After graduation, he became an invaluable politician and made a commitment to sharing his wisdom and strength with others to uplift the community. His legacy lives on today, within the House of Representatives in the committees and caucuses his led.
