What's the Story?

As spring begins in THE FLOWER THIEF, a single flower blooms in the forest. When Squirrel becomes too protective of the flower, Bird steps in to teach Squirrel how to properly care for flowers by giving them space to grow naturally. But can Squirrel resist the urge to protect the flower from all the dangers they see and imagine?

This story is a great exploration of change, self-control, and letting things grow. With vibrant art and a compelling main character duo resembling a caring, supportive parent-child relationship, the story manages to be fast-paced without losing the reader along the way. While Squirrel's enthusiasm and mistakes are certainly accessible to toddlers as a read-aloud, slightly older preschool-aged readers will benefit most from the book's social and seasonal educational elements. It's a great book to kick off the spring season while teaching kids a few flower facts and valuable life skills they'll appreciate all year long.
