What's the Story?

THE TEENY-WEENY UNICORN feels out of place in a big world, and his larger siblings make him feel even worse. They use him as a piece when they play chess, make fun of his tiny splashes in the water, and laugh at his small stature. He runs away and finds a gnome who's even smaller than him but who insists on standing up for himself. When the gnome hears about how the teeny-weeny unicorn is treated, the two find a way to put the siblings in their place and make sure that even the smallest creatures know they're the right size, just as they are.

This sweet story of connection across (size) differences and of standing up for yourself will charm lots of little readers. Some kids might want the large unicorns to have a deeper awareness that what they did was wrong, but the message of self-acceptance in this tale is strong regardless. The Teeny-Weeny Unicorn shows just how much of an impact a single, steadfast friend can have, and how important it is to be supportive of others whenever possible. The story is a bit abrupt toward the end, but it wraps up nicely and inspires readers to build and live in a world that accepts people how they are.
