Borderlands, Its a game
Ok so Borderlands as a series is amazing but the first game is not as good as the rest, but It's still a good game, and It's honestly not to adult, yeah It's got violence but it isn't to dark, it's pretty doofy and a good, fun time. Sex & Nudity 8/100: some sexual jokes througout but nothing that isn't said on disney cartoons. Violence & Gore 70/100: there are a lot of guns, around 17.7 million different ones and you can shoot and hit enemies with them, blood splats but no wounds, and shotguns and snipers shoot of heads, but its cartoony and tame, hitting enemies with your car causes them to explode. Language 50/50: fuck, shit, ass, damn are all said a bit. Drinking and drugs: none.

Fun but gory sci-fi shooter for older teens+
Borderlands is a fast-paced, very fun shooter, albeit with extreme blood and gore. But for older teens who can stomach it, they will certainly love this game.

Not so violent
Well, while it is a first person shooter, it is set on another planet from what seems to be another galaxy. It has a somewhat cartoonish animation style and is a lot less realistic than other first person shooters you can find with a lower age rating. There is some swearing involved however, kids of age 14 are probably used to hearing and using worse language at school. The blood and gore could be quite disturbing but there is an option to turn the gore off so instead of having the bodies splatter all over the place, they are in one piece. There is an element of consumerism that comes from the key feature of buying/selling in game items with/for in game currency to try and have the best items possible. The ultimate aim of the game is to stop a corrupt company from opening "The Vault" which will supposedly help in their quest for galactic domination. SPOILER WARNING: The vault is a form of ancient prison and opening it doesn't lead to riches but instead to what could be your death (multiple times if you are too weak). Overall, for a game made in 2009 it deserved the rating of 18 but by today's standards, it would be a 15 at most. Also, with the other games in the Borderlands series, there is a progressive story line so you need to play them in order for it to make sense so they all need to have the same rating (for continuity). With Borderlands 1.5 (Pre-Sequel), 2 and 3 being rated 18, they are more teen friendly than the first game in the series.

Very fun and comedic FPS but empty environment.
In Borderlands, you are given the option to play as one of four vault hunters, Borderlands is a hilarious game with plenty of laughs and but that’s not the only thing this game has to offer, Borderlands also gives you a fun gameplay experience, you can explore Pandora’s wasteland, collect hundreds of different guns, level up and complete side missions. One problem this game has is an empty environment, no matter how much you explore a lot of the time you’ll get a good amount of the same thing. The blood and gore of this game is not all that bad, there is a lot of blood but a lot of the gore is not very realistic and can be almost comedic. Other than that, there isn’t all that much, profanity is very minor and does not happen often, you’ll hear the occasional damn or sh-t but that’s it. Whether your looking for a fun experience or a funny story, there’s a good chance you’ll find something you like in Borderlands.

Borderlands 1 was a blast!
I enjoyed the kind of introduction to looter shooters. Borderlands is very stylish, cartoony and bloody with lots of guns and loot. Violence is the name of the game. There is blood and gore that gush out of enemies when dying. Decapitation, dismemberment and lots of blood loss(although there is settings that switch off both blood & gore, and language). Strong language isn't as frequent, but they are graphic; a-words, f-words, p***y.

Amazing game! One of the best series ever created in my opinion.
I love this game series so much! The language involves some uses of f*ck and sh*t but can easily be solved by lowering/turning off the volume or just listening to it cause its not too common. There is some adult humor including one of the first bosses (Nine Toes) is said to have 3 balls (testicles) which is for comedic purposes only. The violence isn't bad because the graphics almost look like a drawing or comic book. There are a VERY high amount of guns in the game but that just makes it better because you can collect and find so many different guns that all feel different. You don't only kill humans, you usually kill skags but you'll also end up killing some bandits and other human enemies. In this game, it's not like you kill them and they were innocent, they will start shooting before you start shooting if that makes it more appropriate. Some enemies have the label "badass" when they are stronger than the normal enemies which is for comedic purposes but you'll see a ton of "badass" enemies later in the game when you get really strong. Overall just an amazing game. Feels like an RPG and FPS had a baby and that baby ate a comic book lmao :)

Borderlands 1 is not as good as the second one but don't let this distract you from the fact it is really good.
