As Shane checks off items from her bucket list, she comes to terms with the many ways in which she could have spent her life and tries to fix her relationship with her estranged father (Jimmy Santos).

As far as tearjerkers go, one could do much worse than RC Delos Reyes' inventive take on the road movie. In A Journey, the filmmaker removes any trace of irony and indulges in tackling every possible trope available in the melodrama genre. Anchored by Kaye Abad's immensely moving performance as Shane, a woman who refuses treatment for a returning cancer, Delos Reyes' crafts a film that might be more enjoyed by adults than restless teens not interested in themes of mortality and the legacy we leave behind.

  • How does Shane show integrity by choosing how to deal with her illness? Does anyone have a right to tell her she's doing the right or wrong thing?

  • How does Tupe show remorse for his actions? What kind of advice would you give someone who acts before thinking things through?

  • Why do you think Shane tries to fix her relationship with her father?
