Parents Need to Know
Parents need to know that Aqua Teen Forever: Plantasm is a 2022 animated sequel in which everyone's favorite anthropomorphic fast-food characters take on an evil tech giant. Expect a lot of crass humor and some graphic violence. In one scene, a man is shown masturbating while looking at a property listing on his computer -- he's wearing no clothes while making sexual grunts. Full-frontal nudity of a man in which his private parts are glitched out. Sliced limbs. Decapitations. Shootings. Sexual innuendo. A villain shoots and kills a rare tiger; blood. Stabbings. References to booze and weed. Talk of "getting laid." Strong language throughout, including "f--k" and "motherf--ker." Is It Any Good?
This is a sequel that's best enjoyed by the fans. Aqua Teen Forever: Phantasm isn't a very good introduction to the show for those who haven't been paying attention these past two decades. The humor is weird and crass, the violence is ridiculous and over-the-top, and the story is...well, there really isn't that much to the story, as the pacing is all over the place, and also broken up at times by hackers in a recurring gag that grows tiresome.
Where it works best and where it's most accessible to those who haven't been longtime fans involves the satirical aspects. The movie takes on Big Tech (read: Amazon) and the messianic billionaire egos in charge of the industry (read: Bezos, Musk, Thiel). In the middle of meta humor, gross humor, and the just plain strange, the movie makes pointed remarks on underpaid employees struggling to survive while said billionaires rake in even more money.
