Beautiful, Heartbreaking Film Will Stay With You Forever

A truly perfect drama, Awakenings is very light on inappropriate content, but still best reserved for older viewers. The film does contain a couple romantic references and some language, but they are not issues. Illness and grief are main themes, and the concept of being alive but not truly living is frequently touched on, often times in an emotional and deep way. Many characters in the film are medical patients who have long term conditions, so tense scenes involving illness and its effects are present. While the film can feel a bit heavy at times, it does not necessarily end sadly, it more focuses on enjoying all the good things in life while they are present. The film should be highly recommended to any teen or mature tween considering pursuing a medical field in the future, as the plot is based on a true, unique event, and the film provides a very fascinating, detailed take on working in medical careers. Those who watch the film will assuredly learn something by the time the credits roll. Strong role models are also present in the film, main characters are dedicated, compassionate, and curious, no matter how difficult their task.

A most touching story with mature themes

Awakenings is one of my favorite films. With stellar deliveries from film legends Robert De Niro and Robin Williams, smart, touching, and believable dialogue, this movie will not disappoint artistically. The only reason the movie received a PG-13 rating is because of one f-word and the content, which, while not inappropriate, is certainly not for young audiences. Anyone too young would not be entertained by this film, which includes themes such as despair, hope, perseverance, and humanity's frailty. In conclusion, it's a moving, powerful story, and a must-see.
