Well acted and interesting, but it's sexually explicit and violent.

What Parents and Adult Guardians need to know is that, I have only watched the uncut and unrated version and obviously the unrated version was previously Rated NC-17 by the MPA, so it is obviously more sexually explicit. However, kids now adays are used to watch a lot of violence and sex, on the screen and graphic novels, etc. So this film should be just fine in my opinion for Ages 16 and Up Only. In my opinion, No one under 16 should watch Basic Instinct (Unrated version). Moving on to the movie and story, the movie is very entertaining and well acted. It is not a perfect movie, for starters, it has a very predictable ending, and is a bit, homophobic and sexist, but overall very enjoyable movie for Older Teens and Adults.

Nope, actually agree with this

This film is so inapropriate. Personally, I find it quite boring, but that's an unpopular opinion of mine. Unlike most csm ratings, this one doesn't exaggerate-it really is THAT bad. Loads of sex scenes, including a woman's genetalia, breasts and also male buttocks. And the main character is on cocaine. The violence is insane and could really make any full grown adult throw up. I can't tell you rather its good or not because its not just my kind of thing. Many people will swear by this movie, but I'm not one of those people.

Skin flick masquerading as thriller with potential

In the late 2000's I snuck away my mom's copy of Howard Stern's "Private Parts," just to read the dirty sections. I think this is the movie equivalent. With a meandering detective plot that gets so close to honoring the hardboiled film noir genre it wishes it was, this film is only saved from One Star City because of Stone's genuine commitment to the part of sexpot Catherine. Not a single character could be called three-dimensional. Why do we need to know Gus is a cowboy in the city?? This is borderline softcore porn, and instead of being sexy there's just a lot of sex.

Explicit trashy entertainment with good cast but in the end rather pedestrian.

Graphic lengthy soft-porno sex scenes abound includes rowdy thrusting (especially from the womens butts) lingering shots of breast and rears, and briefly testicles during the opening sex scene and a tasteless sexuallized rape scene from the hero on his shrink. Full frontal female nudity outside of sex including 2 voyeuristic undressing scenes and the infamous interrogation scene and acts include cunnilingus, doggie style, riding, missionary, lesbian, light bondage, manual and oral breast stimulation and more. Gruesome violence includes a repetitive and vicious, extremely bloody ice pick stabbing in the opening with a naked man (we see his gentitals post mordem). A man is stabbed in the neck repeatedly splattering the room and we see him gurgling in a massive pool of blood. We see several gruesome full color photos of children with slit throats with lots of blood. At leat 40 f words and cocaine snorting at a club scene that goes on way too long. The film is entertaining to watch, the cast has good chemeistry, it largely succedes at titilation, has some snappy if cheesy dialogue here and there and has an enjoyable smug self aware attitude of its absurd sexual politics. But in the end its all thematically hollow. An overabundance of filler and convolution that leads nowhere; adding nothing to the plot or characters. Overlong and the characters arent all that smart or likable and there isnt anything original or believable here.
