Even though the theme is about unrequited love, this special is so uplifting that it's easy to forget the theme. Even though Charlie Brown doesn't get any valentines, he, ever so optimistic, thinks to himself, "There's always next year." The other kids, for their part, apologize to him, thereby reassuring viewers that Charlie Brown does indeed have friends, even if they express their friendship to him in a selfish sort of way. Any kid who doesn't get valentines from their classmates, or any adult who has such an unpleasant memory, or even those who've ever feared not receiving any valentines, will feel comforted watching this. It can be watched by anyone.
