Funny movie with dark humor and some mature content.
This movie was pretty funny, but there are several things that you might want to make sure of before your kids watch it. a) make sure they understand 80s humor. It is pretty confusing if you are not expecting it and if you are used to 21st century humor. b) they are aware why the main character keeps attempting suicide (these scenes are meant to be humorous and they are not very dark) and they are aware why it's supposed to be funny and IRATIONAL. c) They are well grounded in their own lives and are not going to reflect too deeply on some of the content to a degree where they imitate.
Overall, I really enjoyed this movie. The romance story was actually a pretty classic one under all the goofiness.
There was talk of sex (as the main character's foreign exchange neighbor is sexually harassed by the son she is staying with) but it is not explicit, and the younger brother of the main character is kind of edgy. He reads a book about picking up trashy women and later you see a lot of inappropriately dressed women in his room (although they are sitting there talking and playing music, not having sex).
Overall, this movie sounds very dark and inappropriate but things are portrayed in such a way that it is somewhat funny rather than dark. Still, I would not recommend this movie for children under 16.
