What's the Story?

In BOYS GO TO JUPITER, suburban Florida high school dropout Billy 5000 (voiced by Jack Corbett) is hustling to make $5000 as a worker for the fictional food-delivery app Grubster. But his quest gets derailed when a curious alien creature stows away in his backpack.

Is It Any Good?

Our review:
Parents say : Not yet rated
Kids say ( 1 ):

A surreal escape from the mundane, this refreshing yet absurd film harnesses the power of lo-fi CGI to fight capitalism, hustle culture, the teenage experience, and even Florida. Boys Go to Jupiter is a refreshingly offbeat animated comedy that refuses to conform to society with its intentional deadpan humor; slow, meandering story with many side quests; and a few oddly placed musical numbers orbiting around the central theme of individuality.

At times, the movie's crude visuals seem more likely to take viewers on a questionable trippy ride than an intelligent film experience. But it's hard to deny that writer/director Julian Glander's weirdly wonderful perspective on the world—as much a space oddity as it is a mundane teenage coming-of-age story—has yielded a work of art worth talking about.
