Camp Crasher
Parent and Kid Reviews
What's the Story?
In CAMP CRASHER, Patricia (Natalia Oreiro) is a divorced mother of a 12-year-old boy who complains that she is overbearing. When she gets wind of her son wanting to go live his father, Patricia jumps at the chance to convince her son that she can be a cool mom.
Is It Any Good?
It's hard to tell, exactly, who this film is for. If Camp Crasher is for kids, many parts might seem a bit boring. The story is much more about Patricia, the mother, and her predicament with her son, Ramiro, not liking living with her, rather than about Ramiro and, say, his friends from school and/or other camper peers. If this movie is for parents, the family comedy tone and vibes make the story hard to take seriously. There's a lot of sappiness and lingering scenes where characters talk about their feelings and worries. Everything is coated in an overly silly family comedy sheen. These decisions unintentionally alienate both halves (kids and parents) of the intended audience.
But the performances are committed and completely watchable. Natalia Oreiro is completely convincing as Patricia, Dalia Gutmann provides some playful goofiness in adult form as Giselle, and the supporting kids' performances are so good they should have been the focus instead of the adults. And while it isn't exactly clear what the main lessons are, by the end, Ramiro learns forgiveness and a bit of compassion, while Patricia learns how to be a "cooler" mom.
