What's the Story?

In CANNIBAL CABIN, it's late summer, and a group of 20-somethings is driving around the English countryside during festival season when they meet Faye. Faye tells them about another festival they should check out, and they decide to have Faye (Mia Lacostena) join their fun-loving crew. But things take a bad turn when they get lost in the middle of nowhere. They find a seemingly abandoned pub, where they meet Corvell and Marilyn, two rude and creepy locals, who seem to help Faye and the others get back to civilization. But soon enough, the RV they're driving has mechanical problems as they approach a gated building. Upon entering the building, it doesn't take long for these travelers to realize that they have been set up, and inside the building are some cannibals who wear masks made of human flesh. The horrified travelers must find a way to escape before they're eaten.

Is It Any Good?

Our review:

No, it isn't any good. If only this review of Cannibal Cabin could end with that one sentence. While there are obviously plenty of low-budget horror movies out there that are enjoyable, this is not one of them. This movie is essentially one big pile-on of horror movie clichés. Clichéd characters, clichéd story. It's yet another "city folk go into a rural area and meet countryfolk who don't take kindly to the urban behaviors of said city folk and use that as a pretense to slaughter them" horror movie.

This movie has an obvious plot twist that viewers will see coming a mile away. Given the title, it's funny how said "Cannibal Cabin" isn't a "cabin" so much as it is an industrial storage unit for the waterpark that sponsored this film, but it's a safe bet that "Cannibal Industrial Storage Unit" doesn't have quite the same ring to it as the title they decided to settle with. Fair enough. This is just a waste of time.

Talk to Your Kids About ...

  • Families can talk about clichés in horror movies like Cannibal Cabin. What are some of the many clichés you noticed? Why do clichés make a movie worse?

  • Why do you think there are so many horror movies that center on teens or young adults from "the city" who venture out into the countryside and encounter scary people in rural areas?

  • How does the violence here compare with that in other horror movies?
