Casual, calm, mild movie for teens & adults

Before watching Chocolat, I was already sure I wasn't going to like it, based off of other reviews I had read. Though I was pleasantly surprised! There were multiple things that made this a very unique movie; For one thing, there are great character arcs and realistic relationships. Armande wishes she could visit with her grandson Luc more often, but is disallowed because her daughter and herself are at odds. Another example would be how Vianne found her best friend, Josephine by helping her escape from her abusive husband. Even the "worst" characters in the film *all* go through some kind of development. All in all, Chocolat is a great movie. Hardly any sexual scenes (aside from one passionate kissing scene and a certain lady's husband giving her a "look" after he ate Vianne's chocolates). Little swearing, barely violent (aside from one assault from Josephine's husband on herself, Vianne, and her daughter. And a fire set by her husband as well - No one got hurt!) Chocolat is a mild movie for both teens and adults to enjoy without much fast-forwarding. Though not for younger kids, as it is time-accurate in the late 1950s France, and some things may get lost on the younger kids. Would reccomend!

Chocolat features a woman fighting for her dream. Vianne opens a chocolate shop in a small French town, and is strongly opposed by the mayor and the people of the village. The story has strong messages of fighting for your dream. There is partial nudity in one scene where you see two characters making love, however the view is partially blocked by door, and the scene lasts, at most, for 10 seconds. There is a little bit of kissing in the movie between Vianne and Roux. There are some frightening images in the form of a fire, and a scene which shows domestic violence (a man is trying to beat his wife for leaving him). The bad language in the film is limited to a smattering of "salty words" such as d*amn and sh*t. Altogether it was a decent film.

Everyone of a certain age should see

My parents are on the more strict side, but since they loved the movie the first time I saw it my eyes were covered for a few parts. However, when I saw it recently, it wasn't bad sexually or whatever. The violence is a little scary, but nothing too bad. SUCH A GOOD MOVIE. Deffenitly worth seeing. Great movie with lots of amazing acting!

I was surprised.

I'm a guy who doesn't go for these kinds of movies. Let's put it this way...my mom talked me into seeing it. I told her I would rather watch something else, but then she made me feel guilty for saying no...so there I was, watching this movie...this really great movie! I was surprised at how well the plot was put together, and how all the little details fit. It gave a positive message, and I liked all the characters. The sex scene was brief, but the nudity should have been listed on the rating. Warning: there were a few pelvic thrusts. But it didn't last for more than 10 seconds. Because of the picture on the DVD box, I expected it to be a romance, but it really wasn't. If you're a guy like me who would rather watch movies with guns and blood, try watching this movie, just to be different. It's much better than you would think.

gosh... Is there any other way to describe it? VERY GOOD!

My apologies for writing 'Very good' at the beginning of every review I write, but I just cant describe it any other way! I absolutley loved this movie-as with all Mirimax films. but this is by far the best mirimax film I've seen. Sooooo... I was like OMG at blockbuster today cause I was like OMG I need a saturday night movie! So I asked Dave and Iris and they said okay lets watch it. So we watched it and I was stunned. It's like so simple, yet so complex. There isn't too much bad stuff. The usual, dotty language here and there, sex behind the curtains, etc. But then there was that shocking assualt scene like half way into the movie, and I had my hand over my mouth, and my little sister who is eleven couldn't take it (she doesn't like violence, which I never expected out of this movie. rMaybe I should have read the rating!) But I finished it with my friend and we loved it! I highly recomend it for thriteen and up!
