What's the Story?

Inspired by the popular mobile game, COLORFUL STAGE! THE MOVIE: A MIKU WHO CAN'T SING is a musical anime film that follows Hatsune Miku (voiced by Saki Fujita), a fantastical vocaloid who seeks the help of five musical bands—Leo/need, More More Jump!, Vivid Bad Squad, Wonderlands x Showtime, and Nightcord at 25:00—to help refine her song, build confidence, and emotionally connect with the people who make up her "Sekai," a virtual dimension that's on the brink of collapse.

Is It Any Good?

Our review:
Parents say : Not yet rated
Kids say ( 1 ):

Without context, character introduction, or defined world lingo, this musical anime is likely to be confusing for anyone who's not already immersed in the video game fandom. Spending most of Colorful Stage! The Movie: A Miku Who Can't Sing's run time trying to comprehend what a "miku" and "sekai" are, juggling more than 20 new characters, and deciphering rules of a musical fantasy world while attempting to follow scenes that flash by faster than a mobile video game, newbies are prone to be as lost as the miku in the story is.

But, plot confusion aside, the film does have some positive aspects, with dazzling animation, catchy songs, and emotional depth that only music can connect us to. Alas, those who are outside of the franchise's complex, niche fandom may never quite find their musical rhythm.
