There is no doubt in my mind that "Die Hard" is the best action movie of all time. "Die Hard" is an action movie that changed cinema forever. The movie has one of the best plots in the history of films. When "Die Hard" was first released in 1988, people hadn't seen this kind of cinematography and they were amazed by it. "Die Hard" has been continuously copied, yet none of the films that copied this masterpiece is actually good. There were many challenges the filmmakers had when the movie was being made. For example, the character development of John McClane was hard. We learn about the character of John McClane through the supporting roles. We learn early on that McClane is actually a very vulnerable man. He isn't like John Rambo or John Matrix. He can easily get hurt. Bruce Willis pulled off the character very well. Many people had their doubts because this was his first action movie. He has proved that he is one of the best action stars out there with "Die Hard". Another challenge the filmmakers had was the tension between John McClane and the main antagonist Hans Gruber. They aren't really in scenes together so the tension is really hard to create. Yet, there discussions through their walkie talkies are amazing. McClane calls himself the "the fly in the ointment" and that line shows what kind of person he is. Hans Gruber is one of the best villains I have ever seen in a movie. He is so iconic and Alan Rickman portrays this despicable figure so well. He absolutely deserved a "Best Supporting Actor" nomination at the Oscars(R); also, Bruce Willis should have been nominated for the "Best Actor" category. "Die Hard" starts out really calm and relaxing. You can tell that something is not right. When the terrorists attack, the action gets started. The transition from calm to fast-paced is perfect. The action in this movie is so good. "Die Hard" has the best action scenes I have ever witnessed in my life. When McClane jumped off of Nakatomi Plaza, I was stunned. One thing I really like about this movie is the fact that everyone is being an ass to John McClane. They don't believe his story. The only person that trusts McClane is a character played by Reginald VelJohnson. When the characters don't believe McClane, the tension gets bigger and I liked it. The chemistry between VelJohnson and Willis's characters is amazing. Despite the fact that they don't see each other until the end, their dialogue is pure amazing. There are many themes that run through "Die Hard". The one that is stressed most is the difference between vigilantism and the law. Another lesson shown through the movie is that we should be kind and nice to everyone because we never know what might happen suddenly. It is such an interesting film. The movie is pristine. John McTiernan is a man who knows how to direct a movie. He has done "Predator", "The Hunt for Red October", and "Die Hard with a Vengeance". Out of all of his movies, I think "Die Hard" is the best. "Die Hard" is a movie that will stand the test of time and was an inspiration to other action movies. Unfortunately, its many sequels couldn't live up to this masterpiece. I don't know how anyone can hate "Die Hard". It's my favorite movie of the 1980s and one that gets better with every viewing. There are no problems in my opinion with the movie.
