Mindless Sex

This film is so explicit as to make grown adults cringe. It's a pointless look at a man who is addicted to some awful things, a man who is not ashamed of his addictions. I don't find the story realistic in how this man, set in his ways, attempts change for a woman. Don't watch this, but most importantly do not let your kids watch it. Also, on this site it's best to just read adult reviews. Kids have no sense, as proven by their reviews suggesting this movie is okay from ages 14 and up.

Great Film ... For Adults

Don Jon gives an honest portrayal of one man from one sub-culture's ideas about sex and intimacy. Joseph Gordon-Levitt's character is a meat-head, Jersey Shore type who objectifies women. Part of that objectification is his obsession with porn - and more to the point, his obsessive masturbation to porn. Aesthetically, the film presents the character flaw visually with montages of actual pornography while Gordon-Levitt narrates in a sharp accent ripe with expletives. While it works thematically and even artistically, it is overwhelming and vulgar. Ultimately, the film explores important aspects of human intimacy and the main character does grow in a positive and endearing way. But the actual pornography in the film is stark and unavoidable. It would most certainly make any teenager wholly uncomfortable. This film is for adults only.

Perfectly appropriate for any age!

This is a heartwarming drama that young children will enjoy. This is fine to watch with your kids because they will love it! My two year old watched this and loved it! He understood every part of the plot. This movie is really boring, but kids love it!

parents beware about this inappropriate waste of time comedy movie don jon this comedy is filled with lots of iffy stuff that's definelty not for kids at all stars with and the director of the movie Joseph Gordon-Levitt again this movie is only for adults and parents you need to know that don jon has a lot of sexual content such as sex scenes, nudity, and lots of masturbation there are lots of strong language used throughout the movie and some drinking there is a message about second chances and the role model is that Jon is a brawny, crass guy with a major problem objectifying women the same goes for his friends But he's seeking higher ground, and we admire him for it esther is open-minded and honest.

JGL's critique is sometimes hypocritical

"Don Jon" rather successfully shows, even in just its opening montage, how firmly sexuality is placed in our society, and the endless spotlight on it that never seems to dull. However, the ceaseless nudity and hookups can be a distractor, and can cloud Gordon-Levitt's message at times. But he gives a fine performance as Jon, nailing the accent. Jon's a porn addict, and his girlfriend is an addict herself: a lover of romantic comedies. What's the difference between them? On the surface there's a big ordeal, but JGL makes you think where the lines are blurred. This movie, like actual pornography, is absolutely 18 years and up. I can't even see this being broadcast on basic cable it's so filthy.
