Extinction: Animals Unite!
Parent and Kid Reviews
What's the Story?
A young superhero enthusiast named Mohsen (voiced by Katherine Clavelo) races off on a daring rescue mission to save the animals of the forest in EXTINCTION: ANIMALS UNITE! Along the way, he forms an unlikely friendship with an endangered Malayan Tiger and they work together to stop an evil hunter.
Is It Any Good?
This animated film had good intentions to show the importance of animal conservation, but a weak plot and lack of direction weaken its promise. The main human character, Mohsen, is annoying at best, with constant scrapes, mess-ups, and a whiny personality that will likely rub viewers the wrong way. There's also no real purpose for his superhero obsession. Subplot tangents constantly interrupt the story flow. Chaos ensues, and dialogue doesn't always make sense (something clearly got lost in translation).
And to top it all off, songs are dropped in suddenly and unexpectedly—with no rhyme or reason. This beautifully animated film with rich colors, stylistic details, and creative animal wonder is sadly diminished with a weirdly-written, poorly-dubbed, and confusing premise that ultimately disappoints its audience.
Talk to Your Kids About ...
Families can talk about the importance of animal conservation. Why is it important to protect endangered animal species from extinction?
Though Mohsen is known for being a troublemaker, he doesn't let that stop his desire to keep on helping others. What motivates you to keep on going and doing the right thing, even when other people may look down on you?
How does this film compare to other animated animal adventures that you've seen?
