Fantastic Planet

This is NOT a kids movie. When you were a kid you probably saw something on tv or in a movie that scared the heck out of you and this movie will do that to kids as well. Add on that the animation is so off-putting and this is a recipe for disaster. As well kids wont understand the messages behind it, so it will freak them out a lot. just because a movie is animated doesn't mean that it's okay for your kids to watch. teenagers will be able to handle this but nothing younger than that. also the sheer amount of boobs in this movie is insane. I watched a couple of rene laloux's other movies and yeah there are lots of boobs in them too. Its not sexual or anything, its just a bit jarring because of how non-normalized unsexualized nudity is, Im not against it, I think its a good thing but that doesn't mean its not still a bit jarring.

This is nothing like most animated or even sci-fi movies out there. Older kids, especially those who are really into vintage/retro films, might appreciate this a lot. Fantastic Planet is a very creative and generally kid-friendly film that depicts some heavier themes like genocide. Be prepared for some very unique animation. I suspect that this movie borrows heavily from surrealism -- a lot of frames looked like Salvador Dalí paintings. This gives it all a very dream-like quality, but don't worry, the story is still easy to follow. There is some mild gore (blood) and mild nudity (breasts), but again, it's all animated. Plus, the nudity is not sexual in nature. The creatures in the movie just don't wear clothing like normal humans do. Overall, a great watch and an underrated movie in my opinion.

it was poggers

This film possesses unique animation that lets you appreciate it more than others. Some people view traditional animation as labour intensive, and where not all the work is appreciated. This film’s animation style, something i was blown away by, is in the middle of Soviet cardboard stop motion and Richard Williams animated mastery. The hatching and sophisticated style is amazing to watch. You can watch it just for the anination. Moreover, the story of this film is a great allegory, as it includes creativity and unforgettable imagety - something most failed allegories lack. I would recommend it to film and animation fans, if not everyone. Parents, nudity occurs in this film. Nipples are shown. But that shouldn’t concern anyone. I watched the ‘night on bald mountain’ part of Fantasia throughout my youth, and was not traumatised. Nipples are something we all have. Anyway, this film is great. Watch it. Its rare that such a unique animation occurs. With amazing animation and an interesting story, it deserves more attention than it gets.
