What's the Story?
In FATELESS, 14-year-old György (Marcell Nagy) is sent to a concentration camp during World War II. There he faces forced labor and horrific living conditions that change him forever.
Is It Any Good?
The horror of the Holocaust is depicted not through explicit violence, but through stellar performances and an artful approach from director Lajos Koltai in this semi-autobiographical Hungarian drama. In Fateless, normal life for 14-year-old György is shattered when he is arrested and sent to a concentration camp. Through his eyes, audiences experience a creeping dread that doesn't exploit suffering for entertainment, but instead reveals—through subtle, haunting details—how entire groups of people can be dehumanized and destroyed. The film features unforgettable, hypnotic imagery that shows how systematic brutality can flourish despite being unimaginable. The triumph of the cinematography is matched by Ennio Morricone's powerful score, together creating a thoughtful, unforgettable reminder of the cruelty of antisemitic authoritarianism.

What did you know of the Holocaust before the film? Did this help you to understand more about what happened to Jewish people during this time?
What impact did it have to see the story from the point of view of a 14-year-old? Talk about how György must have felt.
Discuss the strong language used in the movie. Did it seem necessary, or excessive? What did it contribute to the movie?
