Food Truck: Stolen Love ... and Moo Deng
Parent and Kid Reviews
What's the Story?
When a young boy sneaks onto a food truck in search of his father in FOOD TRUCK: STOLEN LOVE ... AND MOO DENG, a group of unlikely kids and dads team up and embark on a chaotic road trip to help him. Will it be a recipe for disaster ... or redemption?
Is It Any Good?
Relying on chaotic humor instead of a profound, intelligent script, Food Truck: Stolen Love ... and Moo Deng is a shallow, predictable road trip tale with no real purpose or heart. The love letter to Thai culture and prominent nod to Korean influence (a beautiful nuance) is unfortunately overshadowed by overacting, frenetic energy, and a muddled, poorly conceived plot. This lightweight comedy misses the deeper destination: relatability to the audience.
Talk to Your Kids About ...
Families can talk about why filmmakers chose a comedy over a serious drama to tell this story. Was the film successful in the use of humor to convey messages of family, friendship, love, and redemption? Why, or why not?
How are adults portrayed in this film versus the kids? What about Korean characters versus Thai characters? Were there any characters that were presented in a stereotypical way? If so, how?
Which characters appeared realistic, and which characters appeared over-the-top or exaggerated? Which type of character appeals to you the most?
Did Moo Deng's cameo add or detract from the storyline? Why?
