Platinum-selling singer-songwriter Ezra is almost as famous for his everyman quality as he is for his music. Keeping a low profile doesn't appear to be a problem for him, and his refreshing lack of ego makes it easy for him and two friends to walk the length of the U.K., from Land's End to John O'Groats, which is the framing for George Ezra: End to End. Along the way, Ezra takes the opportunity to use the walk as therapy to reconnect with the world in 2021 following an enforced hibernation period during the COVID-19 lockdown. He also tries to articulate the pressures of fame without self-pity and takes a genuine interest in lesser-known artists based along their route.

Watching an unassuming success story gear himself back up for touring and performing to thousands of fans is the highlight of this modest documentary. There are no real surprises, but the makers deftly weave in enough local color and details from Ezra's family history to keep the momentum going. All the post-lockdown conversations have already dated End to End slightly, but that's arguably a good thing. It shows how quickly we've moved on from the pandemic's setbacks. Ezra might not have much new to say about that or anything else -- "I'm not a very extreme dude, am I?" he notes at one point -- but he is unflinchingly honest and likably self-aware. As a result, it's impossible not to wish him well as he makes the effort to spread some kindness and empathy as he goes.
