A Lot or a Little?
The parents' guide to what's in this movie.
What Parents Need to Know
Parents need to know that It's a Wonderful Binge is a 2022 stoner comedy in which characters in a small town celebrate and try to survive "Bingemas." Expect a lot of drug use -- including weed, cocaine, PCP, and ketamine. There's also binge drinking -- wine, booze, beer. Strong language throughout, including frequent use of "motherf--ker" and "f--k." Some violence, including a scene in which the mascot of a pizza restaurant is knocked down by a kid with a guitar, and another mascot gets even by smashing a kid's head repeatedly into a cake. A character is stabbed in the leg with a butter knife. Recurring moments of an owl attacking the faces of some of the characters, leaving blood and claw marks. Sight gags involving a Santa falling off of a roof and breaking his leg. Some sexual references ("banging my mom" and "eating ass") and a scene in which characters almost have sex. Cigar smoking.
What's the Story?
In IT'S A WONDERFUL BINGE, it's the near future, and drug and alcohol use are banned except for one holiday known as "Bingemas." As Mayor Spengler (Kaitlin Olson) tries to get her town prepared for the hedonistic festivities, Hags plans to propose marriage to his girlfriend Sarah, and Andrew runs off from his dysfunctional family to meet an Angel (Danny Trejo). As Andrew smokes PCP with Angel, Hags accidentally donates his engagement ring to an orphanage and must find a way to get it back. Besides them, everyone in the town overindulges as they try to find the true meaning of Bingemas
Is It Any Good?
This movie is epically bad. It's a Wonderful Binge is so bad, in fact, it leads one to suspect that perhaps the DEA is behind it as a way to encourage teens to "just say no." It's downright impressive that so much comedic talent signed on to take part in this banal movie that doesn't produce one single laugh amidst all the screaming and sight gags involving broken legs and menorahs with joints instead of candles.
The premise has just a glimmer of hope, but it doesn't take long to see that this is just another subpar stoner comedy that revels in the dumbest cliches and crass behavior. It's headache-inducing. It's sobering in how unfunny it is. There's no reason for this movie to exist, and the fact that it does shows how inspiration and creativity don't really seem to matter in Hollywood, or at least with whoever greenlighted this at Hulu.
