A Lot or a Little?
The parents' guide to what's in this movie.
What Parents Need to Know
Parents need to know that Jurassic Tale is an adventure story with family conflict and mild violence. It follows two siblings who go to visit their father, who is separated from their mother, for the summer. While there they discover a large egg in a nearby cave and bring it home, where it hatches a baby T. rex. There are brief moments of danger for the baby dinosaur, but no blood is shown. We also see brief images of taxidermy and a hunter posing with his kill. Officers and guards have guns but don't fire. There are a handful of poop jokes as the pizza-loving dinosaur leaves several surprises around the house. Language includes a few insults such as "idiot" and "shut up," mostly spouted by the rude villain who's on the hunt for the baby dinosaur. There's a positive message that teamwork makes the dream work, even when families don't always get along.

Cute idea, poorly executed, not for 6+

What's the Story?
In JURASSIC TALE, a brother and sister pair stumble upon a prehistoric egg while visiting their dad. They bring their discovery home and when it hatches, realize they have a baby T. rex on their hands. The pair quickly become attached to the pizza-loving dino and name him Cesar. The siblings confide in their father about their secret. In the middle of the chaos, their mother drops in to check on them, discovers what they're hiding, and joins in as a reluctant accomplice. After realizing they can't keep Cesar forever, they look for a safe place to release him. But before they can, a poacher learns of their secret and steals the baby dinosaur. The family has to work together to form a rescue mission. Along the way, the parents learn the power of teamwork, forgiveness, and appreciating their differences. But will it be enough for the family to save their Jurassic friend?
Is It Any Good?
Jurassic Tale is a wholesome family movie that shows separated or divorced families can still find common ground. The story starts off a little slow but quickly picks up and has fans guessing what will be inside the enormous egg. Though the movie is a bit campy, young dinosaur fans will appreciate the humor, silly dinosaur slime, and poop jokes. The production quality isn't made for the big screen, but young kids and adults alike can enjoy the adorable pizza-eating dinosaur and the family coming together to try to save him.
The story has good pacing and a very unlikable villain that has viewers rooting for the good guys from beginning to end. Parents might enjoy the fact that the family comes across as very relatable. Siblings banter then make up, and parents disagree but come together in support of their children and new friend. Young dinosaur-loving viewers might have more questions than answers after watching this movie (Where did the egg come from? Where is the mom?). But for those who can appreciate the movie for what it is, they'll enjoy a simple, silly story that can entertain both young and old.
Talk to Your Kids About ...
Families can talk about dinosaurs being a common subject in movies. Why do you think people like to watch movies about these extinct species? Do you think filmmakers had to do any research about dinosaurs for this particular movie?
Do you prefer dinosaur movies with more realistic-looking animals or more puppet-looking dinosaurs? How does that affect your enjoyment of a movie? Does it make it any more or less scary?
Do over-the-top villains make it easier for you to root for the main character? Why do you think some movies have villains like Craven? Do you like stories where the villains get their comeuppance, or where they're redeemed? Why?
How does the family in Jurassic Tale demonstrate teamwork and integrity? Why are these important character strengths?
