What's the Story?

Lainy (Amy Schumer) and Kate (Jillian Bell) have been best friends since childhood in KINDA PREGNANT. Lainy has always known she wanted kids, but when an anticipated marriage proposal from boyfriend Dave (Damon Wayans Jr.) doesn't happen, and Kate gets pregnant, Lainy's plans for the future seem to be falling apart. At a maternity store, a clerk mistakes Lainy as being pregnant, which inspires her to put on a fake belly and pretend to be expecting. She attends a prenatal yoga class, where she meets fellow expectant mom Megan (Brianne Howey). They become friends, and Lainy starts dating Megan's sweet brother Josh (Will Forte). But how long can she keep up the pregnancy scam?

Is It Any Good?

Our review:
Parents say ( 7 ):
Kids say ( 4 ):

Your enjoyment of this film will come down to how funny you find Schumer and whether you can relate to jokes about women in midlife. That might sound like a narrow audience for Kinda Pregnant, but Netflix and other streamers have been betting heavily on this demographic. Schumer appears in almost every scene, showing off her skills at both physical comedy and playing likable but awkward characters. She's backed up by a great supporting cast, from Howey, Bell, and Wayans Jr. as the straight men to over-the-top comedians like Urzula Carlson and Lizze Broadway. Watch for cameos.

Talk to Your Kids About ...

  • Families can talk about how serious they think Lainy's "lie" is in Kinda Pregnant. Why did she lie? Would you have forgiven her? Why, or why not?

  • Teachers and guidance counselors smoke pot and make sexual comments in front of students. This is meant to be funny. What was your reaction to it?

  • Megan says, "The most important relationship you'll ever have is with yourself." What does she mean? What's your opinion about this idea?
