This comedy is uneven, often unsure of what it wants to be, and doesn't quite stick the landing. The core concepts are present in Kontrabida Academy, but the end product doesn't follow through on them. For example, take the plot, a kind of isekai (here, Gigi is transported to a magical world through her television set) that finds Gigi learning the ways of evil or villainy so she can take these lessons back with her and incorporate them into her real life. But of course, not is all that it seems, and her teachers at the academy might not be the best characters to learn from. While this setup doesn't sound bad on paper, in practice, the real-life Act I is quite serious and long, and the tone of Act II is over-the-top comedy, and Act III rushes to wrap up any conflicts needing resolution. Thus, the villains' (in real-life and in the TV show in the movie) comeuppances are quick and unsatisfying.

However, this movie is likely targeting a young audience, so the humor might hit better with teens. The performances are solid, for what they're working with, as clearly the direction must have been "be as over the top and ridiculous as possible." Further, a fair amount of the humor seems to be self-aware in that the film is trying to lovingly make fun of soap opera tropes. Viewers more familiar with this genre might get more out of this film than viewers not familiar with Filipino culture, television, and film. There's some solid heart behind this film; it's just obscured by various unnecessary extravagances like its silly humor and heavy reliance on genre familiarity.
