In this solid installment of the Las Leyendas (The Legends) franchise, central character Leo San Juan remains the same introverted and likable hero. La Leyenda de las Momias de Guanajuato references the actual mummies of Guanajuato as characters, but it provides no historical context or explanation for their existence. Visually, the film richly recreates various Mexican locations. By addressing themes of love and attachment, the story conveys the importance of letting go of deceased loved ones emotionally while recognizing that they remain present on another plane of existence. Leo undergoes meaningful internal conflicts, but the subplots involving secondary characters devolve into pointless anecdotes.
