The Legend of the Charro Negro is an animated horror and fantasy film (in Spanish with English subtitles) with entertaining sequences of adventure and battles between good and evil. Horror fans will enjoy that the antagonist in this story is darker and more harmful than in the previous adventures of Leo San Juan (Benny Emmanuel). Those who have followed the "Las Leyendas" saga will recognize characters from other stories in new contexts.

The movie maintains interest through tasks the main characters must overcome and achieves poignant family reunion moments. Leo faces challenges and must make critical decisions that can redefine his destiny or cost him his life. However, the script presents unnecessary inconsistencies between the historical setting (early 19th century) and contemporary situations, such as the request for a cell phone, the inclusion of techno-merengue music or the adaptation of a song by the Spanish group Mecano from the 80s. The underlying message of not giving in to evil can have a profound effect. Depictions of spirit possession and soul extraction can be intense for young children.
