Parent and Kid Reviews
What's the Story?
In LOST LADIES, after getting married to their respective husbands, Phool (Nitanshi Goel) and Jaya (Pratibha Ranta) find that their lives take a sharp turn when, covered in their veils, they accidentally swap places during their train journey. Now lost amid utter chaos, will they be able to find their homes and their own sense of self?
Is It Any Good?
This Indian comedy-drama is refreshingly different from so much of what Bollywood has offered in recent years. Lost Ladies (also known as Laapataa Ladies) presents an array of new faces—for Ranta it marks her first feature film after a handful of television appearances—all who deliver brilliant performances. Each and every character is crafted with depth and given a proper story arc to dive into. The movie raises sharp questions on the tense position that women occupy in the Indian social setup with relation to how they can become objectified in the arranged marriage system. While challenging such a patriarchal structure, there is still enough space for comedy and genuine affection too, both of which ensure that the film doesn't feel too preachy at any point. A world away from the action-packed blockbusters that Bollywood is filled with, Lost Ladies is gentle, thoughtful, and a definite must-watch.
