What's the Story?

Valentina (Aitana) has just moved into her own apartment, far from her parents and her controlling ex-boyfriend, Oscar (Miguel Angel Muñoz), in LOVE, DIVIDED. Trouble is, her neighbor, David (Fernando Guallar), is a recluse game developer who doesn't leave his apartment and doesn't want anyone on the other side of the paper-thin wall. He's managed to get rid of everyone who has moved into that apartment before, with scary, loud noises. Valentina stands her ground, and slowly the two start a friendship through the wall. Meanwhile, Valentina, a pianist, is prepping for a major audition, and David is trying to complete his long-gestating latest game.

Is It Any Good?

Our review:
Parents say : Not yet rated
Kids say ( 1 ):

This pleasant but forgettable Madrid-set romantic comedy marks the film debut of a popular competitor from a Spanish television singing contest. That's the newest aspect of Love, Divided, a remake of the 2015 French movie Blind Date that feels interchangeable with other Netflix romances. Singer Aitana plays her character as almost too sweet to be a romantic lead, but it's satisfying when she finally stands up to her older, overly controlling ex (the always reliable Muñoz). She heads a pleasant and attractive cast, matched by a pleasant and attractive setting, which all feels underused.

Talk to Your Kids About ...

  • Families can talk about the idea of falling in love with someone without having seen them, as in Love, Divided. Do you agree with the character who compares it to dating apps? Why, or why not?

  • The film is a Spanish remake of a French film. If you've seen the original, how does this one compare? Why remake a movie?

  • Valentina says she's tired of people trying to control her. Where do you see that in the story? Did the movie make you want to root for her?
