What's the Story?

In MARRY MY DEAD BODY, Wu Ming-Han (Greg Han Hsu) wants to move up in the police department but is under investigation for homophobic behavior. When he mistakenly takes a red envelope that binds and "ghost weds" him to a dead gay man named Mao Pang-Yu, Wu will have to learn to work with Mao if he wants to succeed professionally.

Is It Any Good?

Our review:
Parents say : Not yet rated
Kids say ( 1 ):

At over two hours long, this action comedy becomes a little tedious by its conclusion. While it means well, Marry My Dead Body is a little behind the times when it comes to queer representation. Gay men are often portrayed stereotypically, and many portrayals even repeat old and damaging alignments with depression, insanity, disease or illness, overt sexuality, and death. A lot of the comedy relies on gay panic, fear of being gay, and being mistaken for being queer, and even though the gay man lead character, Mao Pang-Yu, doesn't initially want to have anything to do with the straight man, Wu Ming-Han, Mao still can't resist trying to inappropriately kiss Wu at a club, touch him often, and spend lots of time crying in front of him.

Further, even though the lessons of the film are meant to be about tolerance and progressivism, the story still centers on Wu, the straight man, and how he overcomes his homophobia with the help of Mao, a dead gay man.
